29 December 2006
Jersey Water has today announced its tariffs for 2007. With
effect from 1 April 2007, there will be an increase of 2% in the price
of water charged for by meter. Increases in other charges for water, including
supplies charged on an unmeasured basis, will be limited to 3.6%. Standing
charges will not be increased.
Managing Director & Engineer of Jersey Water, Howard
Snowden, commented:
“We are keen to keep price increases to a minimum
and have managed to limit the increase to 3.6% for unmeasured customers
and 2% for metered customers, despite large increases in energy costs.
This is the fifth consecutive year in which price increases for water
have remained at or below inflation. Overall, the effect of the increase
on our income will be limited to approximately 2.1%.”
“In order to encourage customers to move to paying
for water by meter the Company has restricted the price increase for metered
water to just 2%. Converting to a meter is not mandatory but there are
many customers who currently do not have meters installed who could benefit,
depending on their circumstances, by converting to paying for water by
meter. The Company will fit a water meter free of charge wherever the
customer plumbing arrangements allow.”
“With increasingly dry summers and less predictable
rainfall patterns the use of metering helps customers to be more aware
of the water that they are consuming and assists Jersey Water in the prompt
identification of leaks.”
