Friday 4th March 2005
Jersey Water has today published its tariffs for the year
ending 31 March 2006. Overall, the increase in tariffs has been limited
to 2.2%.
There will be no increase this year in the price of water
charged for by meter and increases in other charges for water, including
supplies charged on an unmeasured basis, will be limited to 4%.
Managing Director & Engineer of Jersey Water, Howard
Snowden, commented:
"We were very keen to keep price increases to a minimum
this year and believe that we have done so with an overall increase of
just 2.2%."
"In order to encourage customers to consider moving
to a meter we have kept charges for metered water at 2004 prices. Certain
households could reduce their water bills by switching to what we consider
is a fairer way of charging for water. There is no compulsion to have
a meter fitted for customers who do not wish to change. Wherever possible
we will fit a water meter to a supply free of charge - although there
are certain kinds of supply that cannot be metered without changes to
the Customer’s pipe work."
"Charging for water by meter encourages consumers to
be more aware of the water they use and will help us to manage the demand
for water in the future. Metered supplies also make identification and
rectification of leaks on the system much more straightforward.”
