As the dry weather continues, Jersey Water
is issuing a reminder to Islanders to use water wisely.
In a campaign focussing on the wise use
of water both in the garden and in the home, the message is clear –
just making small changes to your daily routine can make a significant
difference to the water that is wasted in the Island every day.
Each person uses, on average - every day
- 150 litres of water for washing, cooking and toilet flushing. This is
equivalent to 6 buckets, or 75 two litre bottles. Simple changes, like
not leaving the water running when you brush your teeth, taking a shower
instead of a bath, or watering the garden in the coolest part of the day
to reduce evaporation, as well as making the best use of water generally;
are the messages the Company is keen to get across to Islanders.
Jersey Water customers who are on a water
meter, are also being reminded that, as they pay for all water that they
use, making small changes in the home and garden can help to reduce their
water bills.
Managing Director & Engineer of Jersey
Water, Howard Snowden, commented:
“Whilst the reservoirs are currently
88 percent full, and we are not planning any water restrictions at this
time, we are looking ahead to the rest of the Summer and reminding our
customers, and indeed everyone in the Island, that water is a precious
and limited resource. Simple changes in the way we all use water, and
which we will hardly notice, can make a tremendous difference to the overall
volume of water used in the Island; so preserving our water resources”.
