Jersey
Water has recently completed the development of its new laboratory at
its depot in Millbrook, St Lawrence, where the majority of the Company’s
physical, bacteriological and chemical analysis takes place using the
latest equipment and testing processes.
The laboratory consists of a preparatory room with auto-claves
for sterilisation of sample bottles and equipment, a bacteriological laboratory
and chemical laboratory. The laboratory uses membrane type technology
for bacteriological testing, which is more sensitive than the classic
multiple tube analytical process.
Staff
at the laboratory collect over 7,000 samples for testing each year, carry
out quality assurance work on the Company’s new mains and investigate
customer queries regarding water quality.
The water quality results are verified against duplicate
samples taken by the States of Jersey Analyst Department and Jersey Water’s
independent consulting analyst’s laboratory, based in the South
of England.
