Jersey Water has today published details of its charges for water that will come in to effect from April 2013. The Company has indicated that tariffs for metered and unmetered water charges will increase at less than the rate of inflation, by approximately 2%.
Helier Smith, Finance Director commented: “The Company has maintained its policy of keeping tariff increases at or below the rate of inflation for the eleventh year running. We have achieved this by focussing on managing the Company’s costs and operating efficiently. Metered water prices over the past decade have reduced by approximately 16% after taking inflation in to account.”
The Company is also bringing its standing charges in line with other water suppliers by introducing a tiered charge, dependent on the size of the customer’s meter.
“We have announced changes to our standing charges which have remained unchanged at £20 per annum for many years. From April 2013, the standing charge will range from £20.52 (for the vast majority of customers) to £125.05 per annum depending on the size of the customer’s meter. The tiered charge recognises the greater impact that the demand for water through larger connections has on the mains network”
“I am pleased to report that in 2012, Jersey Water installed 3,716 meters as part of our universal metering programme, bringing the proportion of metered connections to approximately 65%. The company is now half way through the programme of installing meters on all connections to the mains water network by 2016. We have now largely completed metering in the Northern and Western parishes and, in 2013 the Company will focus its metering programme on areas in St Clement’s, Grouville and parts of St Helier. Any customer who wishes to have a meter fitted ahead of the Company’s programme can still do so by contacting the company on 707301.”
