Queen’s Valley reservoir to reopen tomorrow

Queen’s Valley reservoir will reopen to the public tomorrow (Friday) after being partially closed since April due to a rat infestation.

We were forced to close the top section of the site to address a rise in rodent numbers caused by a small number of visitors persistently feeding the wildlife, despite clear requests not to.

Since the closure, we have taken targeted action to try to stop the food source and protect public health. With the rodent population now more under control and numbers significantly reduced, we are continuing to closely monitor the situation in partnership with other local agencies.

Terry Gasnier, our Facilities Manager, is keen to remind all visitors to Queen’s Valley that they should enjoy the space responsibly and without feeding birds and other wildlife:

“We know how much Queen’s Valley means to the community, and we are pleased to be in a position to reopen it once again for everyone to enjoy. It’s certainly been a challenge for us because of the constant feeding, but we don’t want the actions of a few to keep spoiling others’ enjoyment of the space. We absolutely want to keep the reservoir open to the public but we will only be able to keep the pest population under constant control if visitors stop feeding the wildlife.”

We thank the public for their patience during the closure and asks for their support to maintain the reservoir as a safe place for all.
