Reservoir closures for public safety during Storm Benjamin

With Storm Benjamin forecast to bring gusts of up to 65mph to Jersey today and tomorrow, we are taking precautionary measures to keep people safe and close Queens Valley and Val de la Mare reservoirs.

From 18:00 this evening (22 October), both reservoirs will be closed to the public and access to the arboretum at Val de la Mare will also be closed during this period.

The closures will remain in place until at least Friday morning, when our teams will carry out inspections and assess both sites for any potential damage.

We are taking this step to ensure public safety, as the high winds increase the risk of falling trees.

Mark Bowden, Head of Water Resilience and Emergency Planning for Jersey Water said:

“The safety of Islanders is always our priority. With Storm Benjamin forecast to bring very strong winds, we’ve closed access to our reservoirs as a precaution. Our teams will carry out inspections once the worst of the weather has passed, and we’ll reopen as soon as it’s safe to do so. We’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation.”

We will provide an update as soon as it is safe to reopen the sites.
