With the ongoing hot and dry weather, and hosepipe bans in place in several parts of the UK, we’ve had some questions about why there isn’t a ban in Jersey yet.
For now, we have enough water to meet the Island’s needs, although this could change quickly depending on the weather and customer demand.
We’d like to explain how and when the decision to implement hosepipe restriction would be made:
- We monitor reservoir water levels, customer demand, rainfall and weather forecasts to predict how long our water supplies are likely to last.
- We introduce a hosepipe ban when reservoir levels reach a pre-determined trigger point based on historical drought and reservoir data.
- By only introducing a hosepipe ban at this trigger point, we avoid unnecessary disruption for Islanders.
So, while there’s no hosepipe ban yet, it could happen. That’s why we’re asking Islanders to use less water now to help our water last longer.
