After an exceptionally wet winter and start to 2026, Jersey’s water resources are in a strong position with reservoirs currently full as we enter the drier months.
March and early April have already been unusually dry and the contrast between a waterlogged winter and a dry spring has created real challenges for local farmers at a critical point in the growing season.
As our overall water stocks are in a healthy position, we’ve been helping local growers respond to current conditions by allowing them controlled access to water from our reservoirs and streams for their irrigation. This means that farmers can water and protect their crops now, while we manage water levels carefully for Island-wide supply.
Supporting local farmers to grow food is a vital part of Jersey’s resilience and supports the wider Island economy. With weather patterns becoming increasingly unpredictable, this type of collaborative action is key so growers can respond to seasonal challenges.
We carefully manage the use of water in this way and continuously review reservoir levels throughout the year to control supplies. Our priority will always be to make sure we have enough water for Islanders.
