Rob Searle left a career in the financial sector on Jersey for a different, challenging, and more varied role at Jersey Water.
It sounds like a cliché, but there really isn’t an average day here. Jersey Water is not a giant company, so you can get involved in a lot of different projects. Beyond the size of the organisation, people here are happy to involve their colleagues in their work. There’s a real sense of working towards a shared purpose, which I found very refreshing when I joined.
A chance to make a difference
I’ve been with the company for about five years. Previously, I was working in the financial sector, but I wanted a challenge in a different environment. When I started looking for other opportunities, Jersey Water was the obvious choice – a great company with a great reputation where I felt my skills and ability could help make a real difference.
Friendly and encouraging
I love that I get to work with a range of different people who appreciate each other’s skills. As you’d expect, there are a lot of engineers here, but they appreciate what I bring to the table too. Colleagues here are friendly and receptive, and want to work as a team. People care about the work we do and the service we provide.
A great place for flexible working
I moved back to Jersey after going to university. My wife and I knew there was no better place to bring up a family. There’s a much better work-life balance here at Jersey Water than I had experienced in the financial sector, and the flexible hours mean I can do the school run or finish early and go for a swim. It really is the best of both worlds.
