The role of the Maintenance Assistant is a key role within the Water Supply Operations Team, to help maintain the Company’s properties and water supply facilities by carrying out installation, refurbishment, and maintenance work. You will assist the Maintenance Supervisor and facilities team in a variety of duties across multiple sites in both external and internal environments. You will be given new challenges and follow an exciting learning curve with continuous support and guidance from the team.
Employee Profile
You will also need to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Knowledge and experience in general building duties, including wet trades, carpentry, painting, general DIY skills
- Knowledge and experience in the safe use of portable tools and equipment
- Self-motivated discovery learning to develop and enhance skills appropriate to the role
- Written, verbal and interpersonal skills and able to always demonstrate a professional and focused manner
- A good level of IT literacy
- An enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated approach to work
- An organised, methodical working style, able to manage priorities and work with accuracy
- A strong attention to detail and the able to solve problems by applying knowledge and understanding
- Able to work safely and with minimal supervision, including on site working
- Have a full, clean driving licence at a minimum of Class B1, B, and BE
- An appreciation of health and safety practices in utility environments
The following attributes would be advantageous:
- Qualifications or experience in building trades
- Qualifications in erecting portable access equipment such as zip-up scaffolds
- Qualifications and experience in applying safe systems of work
- Qualifications and experience of working in the road and traffic management
- Experience in using work recording and work management systems
- Familiarity with the principles of water supply hygiene
What you do:
- Maintain company properties, land, facilities, and reservoirs to support the delivery of water to customers, keeping a positive image of Jersey Water and ensure a safe and tidy working environment
- Assist in the loading and unloading of equipment and where necessary, transport stock and materials to various destinations, using company vehicles and trailers
- Complete works on a priority basis, recording time and activities on the work management system
- Assist with the delivery and setup of any equipment required for the Company’s emergency or community events
- Support the wider Water Supply Operations Team in tasks associated with land management
- Carry out other duties as required
